Graduates & Clerkships

Our clerkships give you a taste of what life is like as a lawyer and working at Thomson Geer.

What will I do?

You'll be part of our teams from day one, getting hands on experience working with our lawyers.

Our structured program provides training, coaching and feedback.

You'll do real work, attend client meetings and receive support from a Partner and junior lawyer.

What's it like at Thomson Geer?

We've created an environment that's flexible, friendly, personable, collegiate and professionally stimulating.

We're big on communication and ensure we're respectful and accountable to each other.

We also encourage a balanced lifestyle and support social activities that promote wellness.

How do I apply?

Apply during the clerkship application period in your state here.

At the next stage we'll ask you to provide a video answering a range questions.

Successful applicants will then be invited to an information evening and networking event where you'll meet Partners and learn more about Thomson Geer.

I applied with Thomson Geer because it is a large Australian corporate law firm that is continuing to develop even further. I very much wanted to be a part of that growth and development. The depth and nature of work was also significant.
What our clerks say

Graduates

Once you've completed a clerkship with us, you're eligible to apply for our graduate program.

Ongoing learning

Our program will expand your skills across a range of practice areas.

You can nominate the areas you'd like to rotate through.

Sydney and Adelaide

The program runs for 12 months and consists of a minimum of two rotations. It’s also the ideal way to complete your Practical Legal Training (PLT) with the firm’s support.

Melbourne and Brisbane

Graduates have the opportunity to complete a Supervised Workplace Traineeship (SWT). The SWT consists of up to three rotations.

You'll do meaningful work for clients with support and guidance from senior lawyers.

Career training and development

We support our lawyers with multiple streams of in-house training and development programs.

These include:

  • New Lawyer training series – practical sessions delivered by senior lawyers
  • In-house seminars and discussion groups that go towards Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) units
  • Leadership Development Program – coaching for senior lawyers

We also support ongoing study through our Tertiary Studies and Assistance Program.
